Transit Cuts Hit U.S. Cities’ Less Fortunate

Many transit authorities rely on sales tax revenue as their primary source of funding — and the recession has slashed retail sales, drastically shrinking these funds and forcing cut backs in transit — which is relied on heavily by lower income people, who are hit hardest by the recession. We must find alternative ways to fund transit and affordable housing so that in tougher economic times, those on the edge are not the most harmed.
